For close to 2,000 years, sake has remained a uniquely Japanese product. Not until in the recent years through interest has sake begin to expand globally. However, it is still little understood outside of Japan.

In conjunction with World Sake Day (held annually on 1st October), Nomi Tomo Sake House is proud to bring you its first ever Sake Festival Malaysia 2018 with the aim to raise a greater awareness and appreciation towards the beverage and its versatility to the Malaysian market.

Nomi Tomo Sake House, Malaysia’s largest sole distributor for craft sake, represents the following 10 breweries from prefectures like Akita, Yamagata, Kochi and Niigata just to name a few.

Among the evening’s line up will be sake tasting stations and sake appreciation sessions conducted by certified sake sommeliers as they will impart their knowledge and expertise on; How sake is made, sampling of different variants, basic pairings, and possibly leading you to discover what could be your next favourite beverage.

Below are some familiar names from the industry around South East Asia that would be taking you through the evening;

Micky Chan, Hong Kong
Certified Sake Sommelier (SSA), “Kikisake-shi” (SSI) and WSET L3 Award
Co-founder of Hong Kong Wine Academy, and awarded the prestigiuos Sake Samurai title in 2017 by The Sake Samurai Association. Micky is also a sake educator, writer, international judge, consultant and conducts training and courses in various countries.

Elliot Faber, Hong Kong
Certified Sake Sommelier (SSA), “Kikisake-shi” (SSI) and WSET L3 Award
Yardbird, RŌNIN, and Sunday’s Grocery. The name behind these familiar brands, Elliot Faber.
He is also the co-founder of Sake Central in Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh, co-author of SAKE: The History, Stories and Craft of Japan’s Artisanal Breweries. Elliot was awarded the Sake Samurai title in 2016 Japan Sake Brewers Association Junior Council

Thomas Ling, Malaysia
Malaysia’s first Certified Sake Sommelier (SSA), “Kikisake-shi” (SSI)
Principal partner of Entwine, Thomas has also various international judging experience under his belt
alongside consulting for beverage market intelligence and trade profiling projects with the Japan External Trade Office (JETRO, Malaysia) / JSS (Japan Saké & Shochu Makers Association)

Danny Leong – Malaysia
Certified Advance Sake Sommelier (SSA), Certified Sake Professional (SEC) and WSET L3 Award
Due to his deep interest in this fascinating Japanese alcoholic beverage he has endeavoured to learn as much as he could about the subject by enrolling in every professional saké course that’s available both locally and in Japan. He is also the proud owner of The Saké Place in Plaza Arkadia, Desa Parkcity opening soon.

Aside from that, representatives from selected breweries will be graciously joining us.
